First Days of School!

Well my first two days went really well! Since we started school on a Thursday, it was a pretty laid back week, so I will start teaching the content of my classes on Monday. But I had a good 2 days of getting to know my students a little bit and just setting up the basics for each class. I start with chemistry with juniors & seniors.. which I'm sure they're excited about :) ... then biology with sophomores, bible with 7th, and then in the afternoon I have 9th grade physical science and then life science with 7th again. So it's a good schedule, but it will definitely keep me busy planning all year! And the class sizes are perfect. My largest class is 15 students (in chemistry) which is actually a lot for the size of my room, but it is still smaller than I'm used to. My smallest class is 8, which is seventh grade for both bible and life science. So this gives me a chance to give more one-on-one instruction and just to get to know my students beyond the classroom.

I love my students already though. I think I'm going to learn a lot from them this year because they have seen the world, and many of them have lived in Peru for most of their lives even if they appear to be American, so they just have a maturity about them. I can already tell they have so much to bring to the class and to the school, so I'm excited to get to know them as the year goes on.

Thanks to everyone who has been praying so consistently for me, especially in these last few days. On Thursday I really had peace as I started the day and a new school year for the first time. I knew so many people were praying for that first day, and I definitely felt the prayers. Please please continue to pray as I begin teaching the actual content of my classes, that I wouldn't become overwhelmed, but that God's peace would remain and that He would show me how to be what these teenagers need.

Oh, and here are some pictures of my classroom right before the first day! The entire room is painted blue... they must have known I'm a Penn Stater :)

I love your classroom!! It's so cute! and I recognize many of the posters from rolling them up to stuff in your suitcase :) hehe. You did a great job setting everything up. I wish I could see it in person. The one bulletin board reminded me.. how does the school teach creation and evolution?

wow laur, you appear to be SO prepared for your classes. very professional. since gram mentioned the rules, i also took a look. I like how you made them all in a 'do' format instead of 'do not' format. central bucks would be proud :) seriously though, it looks like you are doing really great there. love ya.
